U.S. Patent 6,868,830 introduces the concept of a Pintle-regulated Venturi (PRV) for premixing mixing fuel and air at all throttle settings for an internal combustion engine. Current intake manifold designs using a butterfly valve air flow control discourages mixing of fuel and air. The PRV, with fuel injection right at the low-pressure throat, does an effective job of vapor/liquid mixing due to the high velocity and reduced pressure at the mixing point. Pressure is reduced at the point of mixing, yet pressure is recovered at the point of discharge to the combustion chamber because of the smooth flow profile. The pressure profile is counter-intuitive but fundamentally valid based on the conservation of energy. PRV induction could be used with any current internal combustion engine in port injection or throttle body configurations.
